Modern and Contemporary Art Tours to Spain & Europe
Casterbridge specializes in custom-designing art tours that focus on great art, sculpture, and artists from the Modern and Contemporary periods. You can design an entire thematic program around art and architecture from these periods or you can include thematic days focusing on the great artists from the period. On our thematic tours and days we include local specialist guides who provide in-depth information on the works you are viewing. These local guides separate a Casterbridge art tour from all other tour operator’s art tours.
Fantastic Modern and Contemporary Galleries and Sites Around the World
Both in Europe and North America there are numerous museums, galleries, and sites that can be included in modern and contemporary art tours with Casterbridge. When custom-designing a tour you can consider any of these interesting visits.
Madrid and Barcelona offer the best opportunities to view modern and contemporary art. Some of our favorites include: the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid; the Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, which is home to Picasso’s masterful and moving mural, Guernica; La Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, and Parc Guell in Barcelona, which all show the genius of Gaudi; the Fundació Antoni Tàpies and Fundació Joan Miró are also great options in Barcelona; and as a brief day trip out of Barcelona you can visit the Dali Museum in Figueres.
In France, there are museums dedicated to Picasso, Matisse, and Chagall. In London, the Tate Modern is a must-see attraction for art modern art lovers, and just outside London is the Henry Moore Foundation at Perry Green, a must-see for modern sculpture. Germany, Belgium and Holland are also wonderful places to organize modern and contemporary art tours. One of our favorites is the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Washington, D.C., has a wonderful collection of modern art in a wing of the National Gallery of Art and at the Hirshhorn Sculpture Museum, part of the Smithsonian. New York City is another great option, with the MoMA and the Guggenheim.
20th Century Art in Mexico
One of our most requested options includes the great 20th century masters of Mexico. This includes the work of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, as well as Siquieros and Orozco who were other great muralists of the period. We have a wonderful thematic itinerary that focuses on the lives, works, and legacies of these great artists.
Rivera’s works can be seen across Mexico City, including at the: Palacio Nacional, Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, Secretaria de Education Publica, Museo Estudio Diego Rivera, Museo de Artre Moderno, Museo Mural Diego Rivera, Museo Nacional de Arte, Teatro de los Insurgentes, and Palacio de Bellas Artes.
The focus on Frida Kahlo would include: a walking Tour of San Angel and Coyocan, the Museo de Arte Carillo-Gil, the Museo Frida Kahlo, and the Jardin de Frida Kahlo. This thematic day will allow participants to get to know the life, inspirations, and work of the artist they simply called “Frida.”
