From Literary Tours to England to Literature Studies Worldwide

Casterbridge is the industry leader in thematic literary tours to England for student groups. Our worldwide headquarters is situated in the West of England, a short distance from the town of Dorchester. This area is also known as Hardy’s Casterbridge and it is from the writer Thomas Hardy that Casterbridge took its name. With this particularly literary location and the title of ‘Casterbridge Tours,’ you will appreciate that literary tours to England have long been a specialty of our company.

We have a portfolio of literary tours throughout England, Ireland, Europe, Latin America and the United States. We can also custom-design thematic literary tours or thematic days in any destination around the globe. A great example of this would be designing an itinerary around the Cervantes Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico. The festival celebrates Cervantes’ contribution to the arts and features music, theatre, literature, and dance.

Follow Thematic and Chronological Days

All of our literary tours to England and worldwide destinations are structured in a way that allows maximum educational benefit for your group members. In order to create the most coherent itinerary possible, to enhance learning and eliminate confusion for students, we aim to provide thematic and chronologically arranged content for each tour.

This might not only mean a day dedicated to Austen, Shakespeare, Yeats, Joyce, Longfellow, Dante, Goethe, or Twain, but ideally a day that begins at the birthplace and ends at the grave, or follows the writer’s evolution from their earlier to later works. Your Tour Manager/Guide and local specialist guides will ensure there is always an appropriate balance between literary aspirations, recreational activities, and general sightseeing.

Literature on Location: “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons”

Literary tours can also include many of the sites featured in some of the most popular books and movies of our time. Our “Literature on Location” programs are intriguing, thematic touring experiences that provide a unique opportunity to discover the historical and cultural wonders of some of the world’s great destinations.

“Unlocking the Secrets of The Da Vinci Code” is a popular literary tour to France. Starting at the Mona Lisa in The Louvre, your group will journey to the Church of Saint Sulpice and other Parisian landmarks, as you explore the themes and locations featured in Dan Brown’s best-selling novel. The tour continues to London, where we visit Temple Church and the memorial to Sir Isaac Newton in Westminster Abbey. Our own journey of intrigue concludes in Scotland at Roslyn Chapel where we view firsthand the symbolic sculptures and depictions described in the concluding portions of the book.

“Angels and Demons” is another popular “Literature on Location” program in our portfolio of literary tours to Italy. Earth, Air, Fire and Water… your group can discover Rome and all the elements of science in a truly unique fashion by visiting the sites featured in the novel Angels and Demons. The art, tombs, and architecture described in the book are all factual and can still be seen today. In the course of six days in Rome, your group will visit the Pantheon, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican, and the four churches outlined on the “Path of Illumination.” As in the novel, “Angels guide us on our lofty quest,” as we explore Piazza Navona and Castel Sant’Angelo, settings for two of the final scenes in this dramatic work.
