Unique & Thematic Science Tours
Through our unique range of service-learning tours, we can link scientific study with the practical experience of community service and cultural immersion in a foreign country or at home.
Our Planet Earth service-learning tours aim to develop a lifelong interest in science, nature and the environment. We hope they will also promote understanding of local environmental issues, as well as a deeper awareness of how communities interrelate around the world.
Apply Classroom Lessons in the Field
In practical terms, Planet Earth itineraries can take your laboratory lessons and classroom curriculums and carefully translate how these topics relate to the people and environment of a local region, with its unique geology, flora, and fauna. We can take you to a variety of sites, such as bio-reserves and national parks – whether they are volcanoes, river basins, or coral reefs – and let your group examine them for themselves.
By linking direct scientific experience with community involvement and volunteerism, your group will then also feel they are not merely observing, but are proactively engaged in helping to preserve the fragile ecosystems they have come to see.
Tours for Middle Schools and High Schools
Casterbridge offers science tours specifically designed for middle school and high school students. These programs are intended to introduce young people to science themes taught in the classroom as part of your school curriculum. They also include varied cultural experiences and volunteering in the community or region of your choice.
Our programs are excellent extensions of both Earth Science and Life Science curriculums.
Tours for Colleges and Universities
Casterbridge offers scientific tours for college and university students that may count towards college credits. These are suitable for courses in:
- Biologists, Bioengineers, Biomedical Engineers, and Biotechnologists
- Earth Scientists, such as Climatologists, Hydrologists, Energy specialists, Oceanographers, Atmospheric Scientists, and Geologists
- Environmental Scientists and Energy Scientists
- Health Scientists
- Civil Engineers
If you wish, we can take your tour to local laboratories, science departments, and field units that are testing and collecting data or directly implementing theories and practices in a bioregion, such as a desert area, tropical rainforest, or coral reef.
Equally, we can often arrange for you to volunteer with local projects and at local sites that appeal directly to your specialist area of expertise. This might be on a road or bridge project within a nature reserve or in the center of a city. You will be working side-by-side with local experts in your field and will volunteer in projects managed by local people.
As is hopefully evident from the details above, we aim to provide groups of all ages with a travel experience that meets scientific learning goals and also delivers meaningful service that will make a difference to communities and the environment.
