Continuing with our policy to bring together environment and humanitarian concerns to provide service learning and volunteerism opportunities for young people, Casterbridge has developed a range of tours that maximize the benefits of travel to the environment and minimize its negative impacts.

These principles are part of the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria, to which Casterbridge is committed, in cooperation with our partners overseas.

We at Casterbridge believe that educating our people in the effects of environmental and cultural degradation and showing them practical ways in which the world is trying to reverse those effects, is an invaluable travel experience.

ContribuTours

Of the three levels of Planet Earth programs, ContribuTours provides a mid-level experience to service learning and volunteerism. In tours of 8-14 days, our ContribuTours offer 3-5 days of service, with the rest of your tour comprising visits to communities and sites that fully capture the culture and natural wonder of the country you have chosen to visit.

ContribuTours allow you to discover global destinations while making a tangible difference. They comprise two-to-three full days of volunteering, as part of a broader exposure to local people, their culture, and their environment.

All Planet Earth Programs Can be Tailored to Your Precise Needs

Every Planet Earth travel tour is custom designed to fit your group’s age range and thematic emphasis. It will be your own private service learning experience customized by you to fit your precise cultural or service desires and the educational emphasis of your choosing, be it science, the environment, nature and wildlife or authentic immersion into another culture.

Young People

Our ContribuTours aim to provide young people with a travel experience that meets melds academic development with a meaningful service experience that will make a difference to communities and the environment. These service-learning programs often link academic study with the practical experience of community service and cultural immersion.

For Older Participants

For our older tour participants, we offer the same level of personal learning and development, alongside the development of new skills, cultural and environmental awareness, and the ability to develop lifelong international relationships with people of other nations.

One Example of a ContribuTour: Service and Adventure in Costa Rica

Embark on a 9-day ContribuTour to Costa Rica with volunteer days in San José, InBio, and La Selva.

The program begins in San José. It spends a day touring the city and the zoo, and then two days volunteering with the children and elderly at Pani (Patronato Nacional de la Infancia) and a tour and hike at InBio (Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad). After a visit to Poas Volcano National Park, a waterfall, and a butterfly farm, you will spend a day volunteering at La Selva Biological Station, one of the most important sites for tropical ecosystem research in the world. You will spend another day volunteering in Areñal National Park and at a local school, followed by a sky trek in the Areñal Reserve.
